On Thursday, a new anti-aircraft missile was tested at a test site in North Korea. In the development of the DPRK, they saw similarities with the Israeli missile defense system "David's Sling". This is reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The DPRK Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA) reported that during the tests of the Pon'gae-5 (KN-06) missile, it was possible to confirm the characteristics of all elements of the anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), including the radar station, launcher and control center.
The DPRK National Defense Academy noted that new technologies were used to create the rocket's engine and control system. This made it possible to increase the accuracy and increase the area of destruction of air targets.
Military expert Yuri Lyamin suggested that the KN-06 is a two-stage rocket with aerodynamic rudders in the front. He noted that for a long time, the DPRK's air defense was provided by outdated Soviet S-75, S-125 and S-200 systems. The first information about the tests of the new missile appeared in 2011, and at last year's parade in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea, an upgraded version of the KN-06 was shown.
rOssiyskaya Gazeta writes that outwardly the Pon'gae-5 resembles a rocket of the Israeli David's Sling complex, which is part of the country's missile defense system. The two-stage anti-missile system of the Israeli air defense system provides interception of missiles at a range of up to 300 kilometers.
Earlier, the DPRK tested a new ballistic missile "hWasong-8" with a hypersonic combat unit. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
