Moscow. September 29. INTERFAX - The overwhelming majority of Russians (86%) are confident that an armed conflict with the use of nuclear weapons should not be expected in the near future, according to a VTsIOM survey released on Wednesday.
At the same time, according to the study, almost every third Russian (30%) believes that the escalation of conflicts to such a level is impossible, more than half of fellow citizens (56%) consider it extremely unlikely.
At the same time, according to the survey results, almost three quarters of respondents (71%) are convinced that Russia should maintain its existing nuclear potential.
As for the prospects for the next three to five years, more than half of Russians (58%) do not doubt the need to preserve the nuclear potential in the current volume, 15% of respondents or almost one in seven are sure that it should be increased, every tenth (10%) speaks in favor of reduction, sociologists say.
According to VTsIOM, 40% of Russians believe that in the long term (26-30 years) The Russian Federation needs to preserve its existing nuclear potential, 17% of respondents believe that it needs to be increased, 13% of the survey participants are confident in the expediency of reducing it.
