The Saiga program to replace Soviet UAZ SUVs in the Ukrainian army with more modern cars failed.
"There will be no saiga," Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Alexander Nosov wrote on the social network. A 30 percent increase in the cost of adapting modern pickups to army needs is excessive and smacks of corruption, the official said.
Earlier, the AFU announced its intention to replace Soviet SUVs and a motley fleet formed after 2014 with modern cars. As part of the SAIGA program, it was planned to supply Toyota Hilux pickups with their subsequent modernization for the needs of the military at the Ukrainian Armored Vehicles enterprise.
