TSAMTO, September 28. The United States will be able to put its hypersonic missiles into service in the next five years, but Russia is able to neutralize this potential threat with the help of S-500 complexes.
This was stated by the director of TSAMTO Igor Korotchenko in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Pentagon said that they were able to "accelerate" their hypersonic missile to a speed five times higher than the speed of sound during the tests. At the same time, the Russian hypersonic missile "Zircon", which is undergoing state tests, is capable of reaching a maximum speed of about 9M, the agency notes.
"The United States is testing hypersonic air-launched missiles. According to preliminary estimates, they will be able to conduct a full test cycle and start mass production of these missiles at the turn of the next five years, " I. Korotchenko believes.
"In this regard, Russia needs to increase allocations under the state defense order for air defense systems that can reliably intercept targets of this class. That is, we need to accelerate the delivery of the latest S-500 5th generation air defense systems to the troops, so that by the time the American missiles are put into service, we will be able to neutralize this potential threat with confidence, " I. Korotchenko stressed.
Currently, Russia is the only country in the world with hypersonic missiles that are on combat duty or are in a high degree of readiness. In particular, in the Russian Armed Forces, the Dagger air complexes with a hypersonic missile are on experimental combat duty, the Zircon hypersonic missile is undergoing state tests, strategic missiles with the Avangard hypersonic missile unit are on combat duty.
