MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. Russian means of controlling the airspace of the Khmeimim airbase in Syria have detected a drone launched by militants. The UAV was shot down by the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex, said Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria.
"At 12:30, a UAV launched from the territory controlled by illegal armed formations in the Idlib de-escalation zone was detected by the means of controlling the airspace of the Russian Khmeimim airbase," Kulit said during a briefing.
According to him, the aerial target was destroyed at a distance from the airbase by the missile armament of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex. "There are no casualties or material damage as a result of the incident," Kulit stressed.
"The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties calls on the commanders of illegal armed formations to abandon armed provocations and embark on a peaceful settlement of the situation in the areas under their control," the deputy head of the center added.
