The creators of Aurus have started developing their own autopilot. We are talking, among other things, about the system of the third level of autonomy. Almost 40 million rubles will be invested in the development.
The NAMI Research Institute has started developing a system of automotive assistants. It will include adaptive cruise control, an emergency braking function and an automatic obstacle avoidance system, the Newspaper reports .Ru", which got acquainted with the procurement documents of R & D (research and development work). The development, in which 38.7 million rubles will be invested, will be completed within three years according to the plan.
As stated in the documentation, the systems from NAMI will be able to provide the car with the second and third levels of autonomy on the SAE scale. In the first case, the system controls the car, but the driver is obliged to monitor the road and be ready to intervene in the management: for example, the Tesla autopilot belongs to this level.
At the third level, neither constant attention nor an immediate reaction is required from a person. In most cases, except for difficult road or weather conditions, the car moves independently.
The development will be carried out in three stages. Until November 30, 2021, we will work on an automatic braking system. Another year is given for preliminary tests of the systems and the study of adaptive cruise control. At the last stage, which will be completed in November 2023, the institute will develop the obstacle avoidance function, which belongs to the third level, and its integration with the previously created assistants.
The Lada Vesta sedan with a 1.6-liter engine and CVT was chosen as a test "testing ground" for the new systems. It is noteworthy that in the summer WE tried to buy a Vesta ,but we failed to do it for the planned amount of 767 thousand rubles: today such a model costs from 934 thousand rubles.
According to auto expert Sergey Burgazliev, the Russian autopilot is still intended not for budget Lada, but for luxury Aurus, which WE developed. Aurus Senat already has "smart" assistants in its arsenal, but from third-party companies.
