Russian cosmonauts may set a record next year for the number of spacewalks. They will have to leave the International Space Station (ISS) nine times, according to the flight program available to RIA Novosti.
"In 2022, nine exits are planned under the Russian program: VCD-51-on January 19, VCD-52-on January 27, VCD-53-on February 2, VCD-54 - in April, VCD-55, VCD-56 and VCD-57 - in July, VCD-58 - in August, VCD-59 - in November," the document says.
Part of the space work will be related to the retrofitting of the Nauka module (arrived at the ISS in July 2021) and the Berth node module (launched in November 2021).
From 2001 to 2021, Russian cosmonauts on the ISS made 58 spacewalks, eight of which were unscheduled. In 2021, there were six of them (a record of 2013).
Earlier, on September 16, a new record was set for the number of people who are simultaneously in near — Earth orbit-14 people. The previous achievement was recorded in March 1995. At that time, 13 people were in orbit at the same time (six Russian specialists at the Mir station and seven in the American shuttle Endeavour).
