MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/. The launch of the Skif spacecraft will allow creating a full-fledged broadband Internet access system in Russia in the future. This was announced on Friday on Twitter by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
"With the first launch of the Skif, we will secure the necessary orbital position that will be required for the deployment of a full - fledged [broadband Internet] system," he said.
Earlier, the company" Information Satellite Systems " named after M. F. Reshetnev announced the start of production of the communication spacecraft "Skif-D". Its launch is scheduled for October 2022.
The Skif spacecraft are designed to provide broadband Internet access, they are being developed within the framework of the Sphere program, announced in 2018. In addition to communication subsystems, the "Sphere" will include remote sensing devices of the Earth. In total, there will be about 380 devices in the system. The development of the "Sphere" will also allow organizing a mass movement of drones in Russia both in the airspace and on the ground.
