TSAMTO, September 24. On September 23, a meeting of the chiefs of the general staffs of the armed forces of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held at the Donguzsky training ground in the Orenburg Region.

The meeting was attended by military delegations of Russia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.

Summing up, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, who is chairing the meeting, said that "joint work, as always, was held in a trusting and constructive manner."

"There was a thorough exchange of views on the current military-political situation, issues of countering modern challenges and threats were discussed," the head of the Russian General Staff said.

Valery Gerasimov also noted that the meeting " analyzed the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on creating prerequisites for the growth of security threats in the SCO member states," which include the export of terrorist activity, the complication of humanitarian assistance due to the influx of Afghan refugees and the increase in drug trafficking.

The heads of the general staffs of the SCO member states noted the need for coordinated joint actions to neutralize these threats.

"We have agreed to hold systematic consultations between our countries in order to prevent the flow of destabilizing processes on the territory of the Organization's member states," the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry quotes V. Gerasimov.
