"More than 500 servicemen and about 80 units of weapons and military equipment of the Russian military base took part in them," the press service of the district reported.
"The crews of T-72 tanks, BTR-82A armored personnel carriers and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles fired at targets simulating ground and air targets at a range of up to 2 thousand meters," the report says.
"The servicemen of the motorized rifle and tank units of the 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan performed exercises of control shooting from small arms, grenade launchers and combat vehicles," the Central Military District said.
According to the military, the live force of the conditional enemy was hit by motorized infantry from AK-74M submachine guns, GP-25 grenade launchers and large-caliber machine guns of the NSV "Utes".
The maneuvers took place against the backdrop of a difficult situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) came to power.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is the largest military facility of Russia outside its borders (it is part of the Central Military District). It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar.
In August, the Central Military District announced the strengthening of the base in Tajikistan with new weapons - modern sniper rifles, portable anti-aircraft missile systems "Verba", Kalashnikov AK-12 submachine guns, flamethrowers and modern anti-tank missile systems "Kornet".
On July 21, it became known about the decision of the Russian military to strengthen the base in Tajikistan with 17 modern BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.
In addition, according to the head of the armored vehicle service of the Central Military District, Hanif Beglov, the Russian military base in Tajikistan will receive 30 modern tanks by the end of the year. They will replace the combat vehicles of earlier modifications of the tank battalion of the base.
The press service of the Central Military District clarified to Interfax that these will be T-72B3M tanks with improved combat characteristics.
