Washington. September 24. INTERFAX - The issue of Afghanistan continues to be in the center of attention in the sphere of cooperation between Washington and Islamabad, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said before the meeting at the UN General Assembly session, the US State Department reported.
"We have a lot to focus on, starting with Afghanistan, as well as the importance of continuing to work together and moving forward on Afghanistan," Blinken said.
He thanked his Pakistani counterpart for the assistance that Islamabad provided in organizing the evacuation of US and other citizens from Kabul, noting that "there is still something to talk about"on this issue.
Blinken added that the meeting will discuss bilateral relations, including economic ones, as well as "work in the region as a whole."
Qureshi, in turn, stated: "I thought that the time would come when we would talk not only about Afghanistan, but it seems that the problem of Afghanistan exists, we can't discount it."
According to him, the United States and Pakistan should "find a way to work together to achieve a common goal, which is peace and stability."
