Kiev. September 22. INTERFAX-UKRAINE-Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has begun a dialogue with the US Congress and the US administration on the need to increase the total amount of support that the United States provides to Ukraine to $1 billion a year, the press service of the department reported on Wednesday evening.
"I have already started a dialogue with the US Congress and the US administration that the level of financial support for Ukraine from the United States should reach $1 billion a year, and this should happen in the coming years. There are all the political and defense prerequisites for this, " the minister said, answering a journalist's question during an online briefing in New York.
Kuleba added that there are already many forces in the US Congress that support such an initiative, and Ukraine will continue to actively work on its implementation. According to the Minister, a significant part of this amount should go to the security sector.
"The club of states that receive a billion or more dollars of aid from the United States a year is a "club of the chosen ones". This is better than any general statuses, because this is a real practical help, and we are working on attracting it, " he said.
According to the minister, " the issues of strengthening the missile and air defense of Ukraine are among the highest priorities in the dialogue of our state with the United States."
