Lugar's laboratory in Georgia poses very high risks for Russia. This was stated on the air of the NTV channel by the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.
"Firstly, it is very close, and secondly, it is happening in a country that, in my opinion, has lost its biological and epidemiological sovereignty. These are, of course, very high risks for us, " the head of the department noted.
In 2019, the Secretary of the Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said that the United States had commissioned more than 200 biological laboratories, including in countries neighboring Russia - Georgia, Ukraine and others.
In June 2019, the Russian Foreign Ministry sent a note to Georgia regarding a possible visit to the R. Lugar Research Center. There was no response from Tbilisi.
The Lugar Center was opened in 2011 under the auspices of assistance in the fight against regional infectious diseases.
