MOSCOW, 21 Sep-RIA Novosti, Sergey Safronov. The Rubin Central Design Bureau of Marine Technology (CCB MT) has already presented to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation several new projects of non-nuclear submarines of the next fifth generation, Kalina among them, Deputy General Director of the enterprise Andrey Baranov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Now the Russian Navy receives the latest submarines of the fourth generation, which include nuclear-powered Borey and Ash types, as well as non-nuclear Lada types.
Earlier, the general director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Alexey Rakhmanov, told RIA Novosti that the projects of the latest fifth-generation submarines - the Husky nuclear project and the Kalina diesel project-are no longer funded by the Ministry of Defense and USC is developing them at its own expense. Before that, he said that the fifth-generation submarines would be so quiet that they would merge with the noise of the world's oceans.
The completion of the Kalina project was planned in 2015. According to the preliminary project, it was possible to deploy cruise missiles of the Kalibr complex and use two variants of the propulsion system - an air-independent power plant and a lithium-ion battery.
