About 5.5 thousand servicemen and more than 1.2 thousand units of weapons and special equipment are involved in the practical exercises
YEKATERINBURG, September 21. /TASS/. The servicemen will use more than 70 artillery and missile systems in working out tasks to combat illegal armed formations at the anti-terrorist exercises of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries "Peace Mission-2021", which are being held in the Orenburg Region. This is stated in a message distributed on Tuesday by the press service of the Central Military District.
The exercises are held on September 20-24 at the Donguz training ground, about 5.5 thousand servicemen and more than 1.2 thousand units of weapons, military and special equipment are involved in practical actions.
"Within the framework of the exercise, a joint grouping of rocket troops and artillery was created, the basis of which is two self-propelled howitzer and jet artillery divisions from the motorized rifle and artillery brigades of the Central Military District stationed in the Orenburg Region, as well as artillery units of the People's Liberation Army of China. The group is armed with Russian 152-mm self-propelled howitzers "Msta-S" and 120-mm "Hosta", anti-tank missile systems "Sturm-S", multiple rocket launchers "Grad", as well as Chinese 122-mm self-propelled howitzers PLL-09, " the report says.
The artillery units will work out tasks in the interests of the coalition troops in the fight against illegal armed formations: the destruction of equipment, the suppression of firing points, the setting of a barrage, and others. It is planned to use more than 4.5 thousand ammunition of various types, including rocket, high-explosive fragmentation, lighting projectiles, as well as anti-tank missiles.
