New York. September 21. INTERFAX-French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the interested countries in New York this week will give a new impetus to the negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue.
"We will, without a doubt, hold a meeting of the joint commission of the JCPOA, in all likelihood, this week," he told reporters.
He added: "It is important to ensure that during this week we try to achieve positive dynamics for the resumption of the Vienna discussions on the return of Iran and the United States to the JCPOA," he added.
The United States withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 at the insistence of US President Donald Trump, who also resumed the sanctions regime against Tehran. In these conditions, Iran, for its part, refused to fulfill some of the obligations stipulated in the deal.
The Vienna talks were suspended due to the election of a new president in Iran.
The Ministers are in New York to attend the session of the UN General Assembly. Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahiyan has also arrived in New York, who is due to hold bilateral talks with his German, Chinese, French, British and Russian counterparts, according to media reports.
