A new aerosol munition developed by the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering of the Rostec State Corporation has been adopted by the Russian Army.
The product is designed for individual protection of ground combat equipment from high-precision weapons with laser, optical and thermal guidance systems.
When a threat occurs, the 3VD35 protective ammunition is fired in the direction of the enemy's attack and creates a veil of aerosol interference that deceives the guidance systems of high-precision enemy ammunition.
"The main advantage of the ammunition is the ability to protect armored vehicles from high-precision weapons, including attacks into the most vulnerable upper hemisphere, which has a smaller armor thickness and, as a rule, is not covered by dynamic protection. The development protects the equipment from both high-precision aircraft weapons, barrage ammunition, and third-generation anti-tank missiles, including Javelin. The ammunition has a good export potential. Foreign partners have already shown a high interest in it, " said Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the Rostec cluster of weapons, ammunition and special chemicals.
The caliber of the ammunition is 76 mm. The length is 290 mm. Weight-1.8 kg. The temperature range of the ammunition is from minus 50 to plus 55 degrees.
For the first time, this ammunition was shown at the military-technical forum "Army-2021". And you can be glad that it was adopted so quickly. If we do not take into account that a much more effective similar munition was already created several years ago and shown at the Army-2019 forum.
It was developed specifically for the ground forces by specialists of the Novosibirsk Institute of Applied Physics, at whose stand it was exhibited. According to the developers, our armored vehicles, when installing such protection on the armor, would become invulnerable to high-precision and very expensive homing missiles, such as the American Javelin and AGM-114 Hellfire, from which it would be impossible to escape. And you can trust them.
The fact is that the Novosibirsk Institute of Applied Physics is the only enterprise in the country engaged in the protection of warships from high - precision anti-ship missiles. It was in Novosibirsk that a recipe for a mixture was developed that completely neutralizes the ability of the most intelligent guidance heads to aim at targets. Ships shooting sparkling clouds have long become familiar at all parades of the Navy, as well as aircraft shooting heat traps. Novosibirsk residents have taken the initiative to develop and offer the Ground Forces a protective ammunition adapted to their requirements, which has long been used in the Navy and is considered the best in the world in terms of its effectiveness. They even showed the finished product at the "Army-2019". They were not heard.
The army chose what they did at TSNIITOCHMASH, where they had never engaged in such protection. And this, we can say, is good. In any case, we hope that our armored vehicles will be protected from the Javelins.
