The Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missile systems were purchased for the Serbian armed forces. This information was announced by President Aleksandar Vucic last Wednesday during an inspection of weapons and military equipment at an exhibition launched to commemorate the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag. This is reported by the portal Tango Six.
It is interesting that recently the mass media of this country wrote about the possible supply of Israeli Spike LR2 ATGMs. However, they, apparently, were not mentioned at all this time.
The most common controlled means of combating armored vehicles in the Serbian army are now various versions of the Soviet ATGM "Malyutka", which, although they have been modernized, are inferior to foreign models in most characteristics.
As for the "Cornet", they are one of the most popular systems in their class on the international arms markets.
Currently, a large number of modifications have been created that have tandem combat units capable of penetrating up to 1100 - 1300 mm of armor behind dynamic protection or up to 3500 mm of reinforced concrete at distances from 5000 to 10000 meters. At the same time, it is possible to use automatic devices that accompany the goals.
In addition to cumulative variants, there are also high-explosive, high-explosive fragmentation and thermobaric. With their help, you can destroy all kinds of field fortifications, hit manpower, as well as shoot down aircraft: planes, helicopters and drones.
The launchers are installed on various vehicles, including armored vehicles, armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.
According to experts, the acquisition of these Russian complexes will significantly increase the defensive capabilities of the Serbian ground forces.
