MOSCOW, 16 Sep-RIA Novosti. On the basis of the unified Armata platform, the Uralvagonzavod concern is developing a heavy rapid-fire self-propelled artillery installation (ACS) of 152 mm caliber, two sources in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti. Russia needs a new self-propelled gun for superiority over a technically comparable enemy.
He added that the project is currently at the stage of scientific research.
Another source in the defense industry told RIA Novosti that " a promising self-propelled gun on the Armata platform will have an improved combat module from the Coalition-SV artillery installation with an increased rate of fire."
"The project also considers the possibility of implementing a double-barreled turret in the new ACS, which will provide the complex with an unprecedented rate of fire of 30 rounds per minute for heavy artillery installations," the second interlocutor said.
To fight with an equal opponent
As Viktor Murakhovsky, a military expert, editor-in-chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine, explained to RIA Novosti, the creation of a promising self-propelled gun on the Armata platform is designed to solve a number of tasks that are dictated by the requirements of a potential conflict with a technically equal or comparable enemy.
"To fight such an enemy, the self-propelled gun should have a reduced fire raid time while increasing its density. It must perform rapid maneuvers to change the firing position immediately after firing, be able to open fire from the march without prior instrumental preparation, " Murakhovsky said.
He added that modern artillery installations must also be integrated into the reconnaissance and firing circuits of interspecific reconnaissance and destruction systems.
According to the expert, the analysis of the experience of wars and military conflicts of our time demonstrates that barrel artillery remains the key means of fire destruction on the battlefield. "Therefore, due attention is paid to the development of these systems in the Russian Armed Forces," Murakhovsky said.
Armata is a heavy unified tracked platform developed by Uralvagonzavod. To date, the T-14 main tank, the T-15 infantry fighting vehicle and the T-16 armored repair and evacuation vehicle have been created on the basis of the platform.
