Blagoveshchensk. September 15. INTERFAX-FAR EAST-More than 400 cadets of the district training center for training junior specialists of motorized rifle and tank troops of the Eastern Military District (VVO) have mastered underwater driving of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) at the Peschanka training ground in the Trans-Baikal Territory, the press service of the district reports.
"The T-72B crews overcame an artificial reservoir about 100 meters wide with a dive to a depth of up to five meters. The driver-mechanics controlled the combat vehicles in the absence of visibility and visual landmarks using special devices - gyropolukompas," the report says.
Under the leadership of the unit commanders, the cadets worked out the evacuation of personnel and conditionally sunken equipment. For the safety of personnel, the tanks were checked for tightness before training.
To get access to underwater driving, the tankers on the submerged model of the tank fulfilled the standards for the use of an insulating gas mask for evacuation from armored vehicles when the engine stopped.
