TSAMTO, September 13. The US Department of Defense announced the signing of an additional contract by the command for concluding contracts of the US Army with Lockheed Martin Corporation to support the production and deployment of multiple launch rocket systems of the M-270A2 version.
The contract value is $ 22.526 million. The work will be carried out at the enterprises in Grand Prairie (pcs.Texas), Camden (pcs.Texas), New Boston (pcs.Texas). It is planned that the work under the contract will be completed by March 31, 2025.
As reported by TSAMTO, in December 2018, the US Ground Forces announced their intention to increase the fleet of multiple launch rocket systems in the context of strengthening the capabilities to conduct combat operations against an equal enemy. The plans provide for the purchase of up to 343 new M-142 HIMARS launchers, as well as the modernization to the M-270A2 standard of all 225 MLRS M-270A1 and 160 stored M-270A0 launchers previously intended for demilitarization.
The works will extend their service life until 2050 by solving the problems of obsolescence, upgrading the artillery unit, engine, transmission, as well as installing an improved armored cabin and fire control system.
The first contract is worth $ 362.741 million. For the modernization of 50 MLRS launchers, the M-270A0 was signed with Lockheed Martin in April 2019. In June 2020, an agreement worth $ 226.254 million was concluded. There are 44 additional M-270 MLRS for upgrading to the M-270A2 version. In April 2021, a contract worth $ 214.708 million was signed. for the modernization of additional multiple launch rocket systems.
