These experiments began in 2003
TOKYO, September 13. /TASS/. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will continue to conduct experiments on growing protein crystals on the International Space Station (ISS) together with Roscosmos until 2024. This was announced on Monday by Hiroshi Sasaki, vice president of JAXA.
"JAXA has been cooperating with Roscosmos on a number of joint experiments since the creation of the ISS. In particular, we have agreed to continue the experiments on growing protein crystals, which were started in 2003, until 2024, " he said during the international Gagarin Conference, which is held online.
JAXA has its own experimental model "Kibo" on the ISS, the first component of which was installed on the station in 2008. In particular, with the help of the equipment available on it, Japanese astronauts last year proved that Deinococcus radiodurans bacteria can survive in the harsh conditions of open space for a long time.
