The United States has reached an agreement with Uzbekistan, under which a group of Afghan Air Force pilots who arrived in this country, along with their families, will be transferred to an American military base this weekend, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.
According to him, we are talking about the pilots of the Afghan Air Force, who, after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, fled with their relatives to Uzbekistan on planes and helicopters of the Afghan Air Force. It is noted that the Taliban exerted pressure on the Uzbek authorities in order to obtain the extradition of pilots who left Afghanistan.
As the newspaper emphasizes, the pilots themselves, despite the amnesty promised by the Taliban to all officials and the military, fear for their safety and the safety of their relatives.
According to the publication, a total of 585 Afghan pilots, crew members and their relatives are in Uzbekistan.
As expected, these people "will fly to the US military base in Doha," but it is not yet clear whether they will go to the US or anywhere else in the future, Eadaily reports.
