A Russian MiG-31 fighter jet escorted a Norwegian Air Force plane over the Barents Sea. This was reported on September 11 at the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation.
They clarified that on Saturday, Russian means of controlling the airspace over the Barents Sea detected an air target approaching the Russian state border. To identify it and prevent border violations, a MiG-31 fighter from the Northern Fleet air defense forces on duty was lifted into the air.
"The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a Norwegian Air Force P-3C Orion base patrol aircraft and escorted it over the Barents Sea," the report says.
After the turn of the foreign military aircraft from the state border, the MiG-31 returned to the home airfield. It is emphasized that the flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with the international rules for the use of airspace.
Thus, the violation of the state border of Russia is not allowed.
Earlier, on July 14, the Russian Security Council pointed to the increased intelligence activity of NATO countries. According to Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Mikhail Popov, over the past year, more than a thousand reconnaissance aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of foreign countries conducted aerial reconnaissance near the Russian borders. At the same time, Popov assured that provocations at the borders will be stopped.
So, on July 26, it became known that Russian radar stations escorted 47 foreign vehicles near the borders of Russia in just a week. Also on August 13, it was reported about five unmanned aerial vehicles and 33 reconnaissance aircraft of foreign states recorded near the Russian borders.
