The Tesla Model S Plaid set a speed record among mass-produced electric cars on the Nurburgring highway. This is reported by The Verge.
The new electric car of the American company drove a distance of 20.76 kilometers in seven minutes and 30.9 seconds. A Tesla car driven by a racing driver broke the record set in 2019 by a Porsche Taycan by 12 seconds. A video of the car's arrival is available on the Tesla YouTube channel.
According to the head of the company, Elon Musk, an electric car from the factory, which does not have any modifications, participated in the race. However, in the future, Musk promised to release a charged version of the Tesla Model S Plaid, characterized by the presence of improved aerodynamics, carbon brakes and tracked tires.
"Automakers like to brag, the Nurburgring track is one of the main battlefields," the publication quotes the words of auto expert Sean O'Kane, said after the triumph of the Porsche Taycan.
"Nurburgring" is a famous race track located near the German village of Nurburg. The track has been operating since 1927, it hosts Formula 1, FIA WEC and other motorsport circuit series races.
The Model S Plaid is the fastest electric car in the Tesla line. Presented in June, the car can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in two seconds. The car drives almost 650 kilometers on a single charge, its maximum speed is 320 kilometers per hour.
