The Buran orbiter, located in Kazakhstan, has not yet lost its relevance. This opinion was expressed on Thursday, September 9, by Mikhail Kornienko, a pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation, hero of Russia, to Izvestia.
On the eve of the general director of the Kazakhstan private JSC "RSC Baikonur" Dauren Musa said that there were no plans to give consent to the transfer of the layout and the second flight copy of the Buran orbiter to Russia.
The head of the state corporation "Roscosmos" Dmitry Rogozin said that Musa is personally responsible for the condition of these unique machines. He stressed that improper storage of the Buran orbiter, the model of the ship and the Energia-M rocket threatens to lose the material part.
"Buran" is what we should have now. It still has not lost its relevance. This is the highest technology, this is the victory of the Soviet Union. This is the power of a great power. There is not even so much a Blizzard, as the Energia-M rocket itself is important. If we had it, we would now have no problems with the Moon, with Mars, " Kornienko noted in turn.
The cosmonaut admitted that they want to return the space shuttle to Russia to send it to the exhibition. "Buran", as he summed up, is an object of ideological significance.
At the same time, Rogozin stressed in his message that Russia does not plan to export the ship without the permission of the Kazakh authorities, but the assessment of the condition of the ship and the rocket turned out to be disappointing.
The return of the second flight ship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to Russia, on September 6, was announced by specialists of the Molniya research and production association, which developed the Buran reusable shuttle. It was noted that the possibility of moving the Buran and its layout from the hangar without damage was discussed at a meeting with representatives of Roscosmos.
Buran is the first reusable orbiter that was created in the USSR. Its development lasted more than 10 years. On November 15, 1988, the spacecraft made its first and last orbital flight. It was destroyed after the collapse of the roof in the assembly and testing building at Baikonur in 2002. The second and last of the completed ships, along with the model of the ship, is also located on Baikonur. It is he who is the subject of legal proceedings.
The third, unfinished copy is located in Zhukovsky near Moscow, and the test copy with aircraft engines is located in Germany. Another model of the Buran was stored for a long time in an open area on Baikonur, and then it was transported to the RSC Energia museum at the cosmodrome. The latest model is located at VDNH in Moscow.
