Ekaterinburg. September 6. INTERFAX-Gunners of the Russian military base in Tajikistan against the background of the situation in Afghanistan conducted a live-firing exercise at the Sambuli mountain range (Tajikistan), the Central Military District (CVO) reported on Monday.
"Calculations of multiple rocket launchers "Grad", self-propelled artillery installations "Gvozdika" and towed mortars "Sani" made a fire raid, alternately striking targets from different directions, " the press service of the district said in a statement.
The military said that during the complex exercise, the destruction of targets at ranges from 3 to 10 km was worked out.
"This method of shooting allowed us to exhaust the conditional enemy, without giving a single chance to restore combat capability," the Central Military District said.
Earlier it was reported that on August 17, the Russian military in Tajikistan began maneuvers with the participation of about 1 thousand servicemen. The exercises will last a month, the press service of the Central Military District specified.
The exercises are taking place against the background of the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) has come to power.
In August, Russia conducted two exercises near the Afghan border, one jointly with Uzbekistan, the other jointly with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Several thousand servicemen, aviation, artillery and armored vehicles took part in the maneuvers.
The 201st Russian military base operates in Tajikistan. This is the largest military facility in Russia (part of the Central Military District) outside of its borders. The Russian military reported in August that the base was reinforced with new weapons.
The CSTO will hold maneuvers in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan this autumn with the participation of several thousand military personnel, the organization's press secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov told Interfax on August 27.
About 300 Russian military personnel and more than 60 pieces of equipment have been transferred to Kyrgyzstan for the CSTO "Rubezh-2021" maneuvers, which will be held on September 7-9, the Central Military District reported on August 30.
Zainetdinov reported that in October, exercises will be held in Tajikistan near the border with Afghanistan with the intelligence forces of the armed forces of the CSTO states "Search-2021", logistics units "Echelon-2021" and Collective Rapid Reaction Forces-"Interaction - 2021".
In November, a special tactical exercise "Cobalt-2021" is planned in Tajikistan with special purpose units of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO. Within the framework of this exercise, tasks will be worked out to curb the activities of illegal armed groups.
