In the future, the US military will most likely use mainly US Navy aircraft to launch strikes against the militants of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in the Russian Federation) in Afghanistan.
This is stated in an article published in the publication Politico. According to the publication, the Washington administration expressed its readiness to launch air strikes against IS militants in Afghanistan using aircraft and drones.
"However, a detailed plan has not yet been developed for how this aircraft will be able to collect intelligence data on targets or carry out such missions from such a long distance on a regular basis," the material notes.
The absence of US-controlled airfields near Afghanistan may mean that Washington will use carrier aircraft for this purpose. As the newspaper states, conducting such operations in Afghanistan "may become mainly the responsibility of the US Navy."
