The company "Yandex" will launch unmanned taxis for passenger transportation in 2021. This is reported by RBC with reference to the corresponding draft government decree supplementing the law "On experimental legal regimes in the field of digital innovations".
According to the publication, "Yandex Go" became the only participant in the experiment on the introduction of such technology. Other aggregators considered the idea a promising issue of the distant future.
It turned out that in 2021, Yandex plans to bring eight commercial unmanned taxis to the roads of Innopolis (Tatarstan). Ten such cars will appear in the capital this year or next. In total, the company plans to increase the fleet of drones to one thousand cars.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport announced tests of unmanned vehicles without the participation of drivers in the period from 2021 to 2024. In a number of regions, it is planned to create zones with 5G networks for the experiment. At the same time, Yandex reported that they are creating self-driving cars that could drive on public roads regardless of environmental conditions and infrastructure development. The company noted that drones can already move independently, but they must learn to predict changes in the situation, since not everyone drives strictly according to the rules.
Vladislav Fedulov, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, said that the documentation for the launch of testing of unmanned cars was developed jointly with Yandex, now it needs to be coordinated with regulatory authorities "so that they understand how such unmanned cars will move on the road." The experiment on testing unmanned vehicles is designed for three years, he said.
