Preparatory work on the Russian-Chinese wide-body long-haul aircraft CR929 has been completed, the production of the first copy has started. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the publication "Jiefang Zhibao".
According to the agency, earlier, the chief engineer for advanced research of the Chinese Civil Aircraft Corporation (COMAC), Yang Zhigan, said that the assembly of the aircraft will begin this year. The beginning of the assembly of the first aircraft, according to him, means that all the design work has been completed, the parties have agreed on the main parameters of the aircraft and decided on suppliers.
In July 2020, the general director of Irkut Corporation, Ravil Khakimov, said that the first deliveries of CR929 aircraft should begin in 2028-2029.
In 2018, The Paper portal, with reference to Yang Zhigang, wrote that the first flight of the CR929 will take place around 2025. Then Zhigan noted that the aircraft will meet all the necessary technical requirements of the market, and the most advanced composite materials and high-tech solutions will be used in its creation.
It was also reported that the operator of the CR929 project is CRAIC (China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation). The creation of a joint venture between United Aircraft Corporation and COMAC was announced in May 2017 in Shanghai (China).
