More than 63 thousand people, including 967 girls, started classes at universities and pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on September 1, the head of the Russian military Department Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday during the celebrations dedicated to the Day of Knowledge and the beginning of the school year.
"According to the established tradition, Russia celebrates the Day of Knowledge on September 1. Today, more than 2.5 thousand students, more than 61 thousand cadets, including 967 girls, 7 thousand foreign servicemen from 58 countries and 15 thousand pupils of pre - university educational institutions are starting classes in educational organizations of the Ministry of Defense of Russia," the Defense Minister said.
According to him, "purposeful young people came to the classrooms and lecture halls to master the honorary profession of defender of the Fatherland."
"This will be facilitated by a well-built, dynamically developing system of military education, which is adapted to the modern requirements of the troops and quickly responds to changes in the forms and methods of conducting military operations, as well as the information and educational environment widely used in universities," Shoigu said.
Then he gave the floor to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov, who reported on the readiness of educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for the new academic year and the implementation of new approaches to the training of military personnel.
