Nur-Sultan. September 1. INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN-US President Joseph Biden sent a letter to the head of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, the press service of the Kazakh leader reported.
"On August 29, the day of the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, on behalf of the United States of America, I send my best congratulations to the people of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the letter says, excerpts from which are given in the press service message distributed on Wednesday.
"The United States remains committed to further strengthening its close partnership with Kazakhstan, including cooperation with your government to ensure the safety and reclamation of the territory of the former test site," Biden writes.
Biden highly appreciated the joint work of the two countries to eliminate the legacy of the nuclear testing infrastructure left by the Soviet Union within the framework of the Nunn - Lugar Program for Joint Threat Reduction, as well as Kazakhstan's firm commitment to nuclear security and non-proliferation obligations.
"The United States of America is proud of its friendship with your country. I look forward to continuing cooperation with you in order to fully and fruitfully realize the potential of our partnership," the letter of the American president says.
