KIEV, September 1. /TASS/. Ukraine and the United States signed a Memorandum in the field of space flight safety, information and services on space situational awareness. This was reported on Tuesday by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, referring to the results of the agreements reached during the working visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to the United States.
"Ukraine and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of space flight safety, provision of services and information on space situational awareness," the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The document signed by the Defense Ministers of Ukraine and the United States, Andriy Taran and Lloyd Austin, defines the mutual interest of the parties and the desire to expand cooperation in the use of outer space, the military department noted.
The memorandum provides for providing Ukraine with the opportunity to receive information and services on "space situational awareness"from the US Space Command. "Thanks to further cooperation in accordance with the provisions of the memorandum, Ukraine will receive data on the numerical and qualitative composition of the orbital groupings of existing spacecraft of space systems, will be able to assess their overall functionality by the main spatial and temporal characteristics, identify space objects for observation by domestic means, in particular, radar," the Defense Ministry added.
The parties also signed an agreement on the strategic basis of the defense partnership between Ukraine and the United States.
In addition to the Pentagon, Zelensky visited the US Department of Energy, where the state enterprise Energoatom and the American company Westinghouse Electric signed a memorandum on the construction of the Khmelnitsky NPP power unit and four more power units. The Head of State also met with the director of the American space agency NASA, Bill Nelson. The President of Ukraine is also expected to hold meetings and negotiations at the US State Department and the World Bank. He is scheduled to hold talks with US President Joe Biden on Wednesday. In addition, Zelensky will visit California, where he is scheduled to meet with the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, as well as the head of Apple, Tim Cook.
