Thanks to the accident-free operation in 2019-2020, the state corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos saved over 450 million rubles. This was reported to TASS by a representative of the organization.
"Over the period 2019-2020, we managed to achieve a positive economic effect in the form of savings in the federal budget for insurance of spacecraft launches by more than 450 million rubles compared to the tariffs that were in effect in 2018," the state corporation noted.
As specified in Roscosmos, the accident-free situation affects the attitude of the insurance markets. In particular, there is a constant reduction in tariffs for three years. It is noted that the package insurance of launches also allowed to reduce costs.
Since the end of October 2018, Roscosmos has carried out 64 trouble-free launches in a row. At the end of May 2021, the record of the early 1990s was broken, when 58 trouble-free launches were carried out.
At the same time, in the period from 2010 to 2018, the damage from accidents in the Russian rocket and space industry exceeded 35 billion rubles. Uncovered losses amounted to more than 10 billion rubles. During this period, 11 emergency launches occurred. In particular, only the accident of Proton-M with three satellites led to a loss of 5 billion rubles.
