Russian peacekeepers conducted a training session to prevent possible violations with the use of unmanned aircraft of a simulated enemy and to ensure security at observation posts in the Lachin corridor of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of a planned combat training session. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Monday, August 30.
It is noted that the classes were held at six training places. During the events, the servicemen worked out new tactical techniques and actions when leaving the location, as well as loading on the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier. In addition, the blocking of a conditional violator and maneuvering to the specified boundary using hidden folds of the terrain were practiced.
The report also indicates that the special feature of the exercises was the performance of tasks to detect an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the area of responsibility of the observation post. The information was transmitted via closed communication channels to the control point of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
Vladislav Vorobyov, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, said that the personnel also worked out measures to occupy firing positions, move to positions under the cover of equipment. The lesson ended with a comprehensive training session with practical actions, as well as working out tasks to maintain the combat readiness of the observation post.
On July 22, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, during a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressed the key role of Russia in ensuring peace and stability in Nagorno-Karabakh. During the talks, the prospects of cooperation in the field of economy and defense were discussed.
In November 2020, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, together with Putin and Pashinyan, signed an agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers to the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict, the transfer of a number of regions of the region by Armenia to Azerbaijan and the return of refugees to Karabakh.
