A member of the US House of Representatives, a former US Navy reservist, Jim Banks, said that the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) seized American military equipment worth $ 85 billion. His words are quoted by The Independent .
He said that among the large number of equipment and weapons left in Afghanistan, there are 75,000 vehicles, 200 aircraft and helicopters, as well as 600,000 small arms and light weapons. Banks stressed that currently the militants have more Black Hawk helicopters than 85 percent of the countries of the world. "If these weapons are used now or in the future to harm, injure or kill Americans, blood will be on Joe Biden's hands," the congressman added.
Earlier, Colonel Richard Kemp, the former commander of British troops in Afghanistan, said that the abundance of weapons in the hands of the Taliban is a cause for concern. According to him, the Taliban is better equipped than many official state armies.
On May 1, the official withdrawal of US and North Atlantic Alliance troops from the Afghan territories began. After that, the situation in the country worsened, the Taliban forces became more active (banned in Russia). On August 15, the militants announced the establishment of control over the entire territory of Afghanistan. On the same day, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left the country.
