The T-14 main battle tanks based on the Armata heavy unified platform have been participating in the Army International military-technical forum since 2017. The first shows naturally caused a real stir among both Russian and foreign specialists, as well as among ordinary visitors to the exhibition.
If earlier the novelty of domestic tank construction was demonstrated behind fences, now the "fourteenth" began to be shown openly, and anyone can get acquainted with the features of its design.
Every year, the accompanying information placed on the billboards standing next to each other became more detailed. For example, it was reported that the tank weighs 55 tons, not 48, as previously indicated in many unofficial sources.
The data on the dimensions were also published: the length is 10.8 meters, the width is 3.9 meters, and the height is 3.3 meters. A 125-mm cannon and one PKTM machine gun were used as weapons. It was mentioned that it was possible to install an artillery system of a larger caliber.
The engine power is 1500 hp. The maximum speed on the highway is 75 - 80 km/h. The power reserve is 500 km.
It was noted that the original layout of the tank provides comfortable accommodation for a crew of three people in the front of the least vulnerable part of the tank - in a highly protected inhabited control compartment isolated from fuel and ammunition.
There is also data on the availability of a new generation of dynamic protection and a set of active protection tools.
This year, a combat vehicle that has undergone some improvements was brought to the forum, for example, it received new reinforced support rollers similar to those of the T-16 armored repair and evacuation vehicle, which is being tested at the Kubinka training ground. Now, next to the gun, a "plug" is visible for the second paired machine gun.
According to some experts, it is in this form that the T-14 will go into the army, and the Russian ground forces will be the first in the world to receive tanks of a fundamentally new generation.
