Russia will supply Myanmar with two Pantsir-S1 air defense systems

Kubinka (Moscow region). August 25. INTERFAX-AVN-Russia will supply Myanmar with two short-range air defense systems "Pantsir", Dmitry Shugaev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) of the Russian Federation, told reporters.

"We signed a contract for the supply of two Pantsir-S1 complexes to Myanmar in January of this year," Shugayev said.

"We will deliver them in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed in these contracts," Shugaev said. "I can't say now whether Myanmar is interested in additional supplies of the same "Shells"," he said.

As Interfax reported, in January, during the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Myanmar, an agreement was signed on the supply of short-range Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems (ZRPC) to Myanmar, as well as Orlan-10E reconnaissance drones and radar stations.

On January 20, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said that Myanmar could receive Russian - made aircraft and armored vehicles, as well as air defense systems in the coming years.

"Russia has already delivered MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters to Myanmar. In the coming years, the possibility of supplying other samples of modern aviation equipment, armored vehicles, Russian - made air defense systems is being considered," Fomin said in an interview with RT.

In 2018, an agreement was reached between Russia and Myanmar on the purchase of six Su-30 aircraft.

The Myanmar armed forces have Russian-made military equipment: Mi-24, Mi-35 and Mi-17 helicopters, MiG-29 fighters, Yak-130 combat training aircraft, Pechora-2 anti-aircraft missile systems. Military personnel from this country are trained in Russian military universities.

ZRPK " Pantsir "(developed by the Instrument Engineering Design Bureau named after Shipunova, holding " NPO "High-precision complexes") is a short-range air defense system used by the Russian military, in particular, for the defense of facilities in Syria. It is designed for short-range protection of civilian and military objects from air attack in any weather, climatic and electronic environment, day and night. The complex can protect the defended object from ground and surface threats.
