According to Nelson, he has no doubt that the term of operation of the ISS will be extended until 2030, and cooperation with Roscosmos will continue. "I very much hope and am very optimistic that the very good, exceptional cooperation that we had will continue," the head of the space agency said. Currently, the ISS operation period has been extended until 2024, but negotiations are underway to continue operating the station until the end of the decade.
Nelson also wished that Russia and the United States would cooperate on Gateway, a project of a Lunar orbital gateway platform designed to explore the Moon, deep space and prepare for a long flight to Mars.
Earlier, the general director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin , said on the air of the Echo of Moscow radio station that the issue of Russia's continued participation in the ISS project will be resolved in the next few months. The head of the Russian space Corporation will discuss the extension of the station's operation with Bill Nelson in Dubai in October during the Astronautical Congress.
