At the Army-2021 forum, a contract was signed for the supply of a mobile command missile system to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The contract was signed with the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering (MIT). The document was signed by Acting head of the Institute Sergey Ponomarev and Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko.
MIT is developing solid-fuel intercontinental-class ballistic missiles, hence the "Topol" and "Yars"came out. Command missiles are used in the "Perimeter" system, designed to launch a retaliatory nuclear missile strike in the event of the destruction of the country's leadership and command posts of the Strategic Missile Forces.
To bring the launch command to the launchers, a command missile is used, instead of a warhead equipped with a powerful transmitter. It flies over the country, broadcasting an order to launch combat ICBMs, whose mines are equipped with signal receivers.
Initially, the Perimeter used mine-based command missiles, over time mobile launch complexes were added to them. According to open sources, now the mission of the "Dead Hand" (as the system was called in the United States) is assigned to the ICBM "Topol", but the command of the Strategic Missile Forces intends to remove this type from service.
