Kubinka (Moscow region), August 24. INTERFAX-Russia is ready to provide all types of Myanmar's armed forces with equipment and weapons within the framework of military-technical cooperation, the head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, told Interfax.
"Myanmar is one of the key partners of Rosoboronexport in Southeast Asia. The company is actively promoting Russian military products for all types of the armed forces to Myanmar," Mikheev said at the Army 2021 forum.
On July 23, at the MAKS-2021 exhibition, the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia, Dmitry Shugaev, told Interfax that Russia is fulfilling contracts for the supply of Su-30SME fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft to Myanmar.
"Contracts for the supply of Su-30SME multi-purpose fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft are being successfully implemented. Equipping this equipment will significantly increase the capabilities of Myanmar's combat aviation, " Shugayev said at the time.
According to him, Myanmar remains one of Russia's main partners in Southeast Asia.
"I would like to note the joint success in equipping the Myanmar Air Force with Russian aircraft of various types. Currently, the Myanmar Air Force operates MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft, " Shugaev said at the time.
A military coup took place in Myanmar on February 1. The power passed to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Hline, the United States and Britain imposed sanctions against structures in Myanmar related to the military coup.
As Interfax reported, in March, Deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry Alexander Fomin visited Myanmar. He held talks with the country's military leadership and became a guest of the parade in honor of the 76th anniversary of the formation of the Myanmar armed forces.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Myanmar in January. During the visit of the Russian Defense Minister, an agreement was signed on the supply of Pantsir-S1 short-range anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, Orlan-10E reconnaissance drones and radar stations to Myanmar.
The military delegation of Myanmar came to Russia to get acquainted with the production of "Shells", an informed interlocutor of Interfax reported on June 9.
On January 20, Fomin said that Myanmar could receive Russian - made aircraft and armored vehicles, as well as air defense systems, in the coming years. "Russia has already delivered MiG-29 and Yak-130 aircraft, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters to Myanmar. In the coming years, the possibility of supplying other samples of modern aviation equipment, armored vehicles, Russian - made air defense systems is being considered," Fomin said in an interview with RT.
