A new armored personnel carrier is planned to be created on the basis of the BTR-82A. At the same time, the components and assemblies of the "Athlete"armored car will be used.
This was announced by the general director of the Military-Industrial Company Alexander Krasovitsky at the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2021", writes TASS. He noted that the designers are going to make an armored personnel carrier of the BTR-82A class with a front engine arrangement, with a rear ramp. Such a car will accommodate 10-12 paratroopers.
The new armored personnel carrier is ready on paper, and the "Military-Industrial Company" already understands how much time and money is needed to implement it. The car will be made on an initiative basis. But, according to Director General Alexander Krasovitsky, the military-industrial complex hopes for the interest of the Russian Defense Ministry.
"RG" has already reported that the modification of the Sosna air defense system on the BTR-82 was presented at the Army-2021 . This SAM has high tactical and technical characteristics and can hit a variety of aerial targets, including drones, cruise missiles or guided aviation ammunition.
