Due to the situation in Afghanistan, the Russian military base in Tajikistan was strengthened with anti-tank complexes "Kornet". This became known on August 24 from a message distributed by the press service of the Central Military District (CVO).
"The 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan has received a batch of modern anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs) "Kornet". The new complexes are in service with the artillery units of the Russian connection, " the report says.
"Kornet — is an anti-tank missile system. It is designed to defeat tanks and other armored targets, including those equipped with modern means of dynamic protection.
A day earlier, the Russian military conducted exercises using helicopters in the mountains of Tajikistan, the application of conditional strikes on enemy positions was practiced.
In the area of the Lyaur training ground, the crews worked out helicopter ambushes with the use of conditional launches of unguided missiles at ground and air targets of a conditional enemy, as well as avoiding the blows of portable anti-aircraft missile systems. Scheduled flights took place during the day and at night in simple and difficult weather conditions.
The exercises were held against the background of the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan and the threat of the penetration of terrorist groups into the border countries of Central Asia.
On August 15, Taliban militants (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) entered Kabul, after which they declared the "end of the war" in Afghanistan. They also announced their intention to create an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and also demanded the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
