PATRIOT PARK (Moscow region), 24 Aug-RIA Novosti. Hypersonic missiles created in the West do not pose big problems for Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, Russia will be able to successfully shoot them down, Pavel Sozinov, general designer of the Almaz-Antey concern of East Kazakhstan Region, told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the United States announced a program to create its own hypersonic missiles, the maximum flight speed of which should be 17 speeds of sound. The then President of the United States, Donald Trump, called them "super-duper" missiles.
"Any hypersonic missile – both existing and potentially created in the foreseeable future – is within our capabilities," Sozinov said.
The General Designer noted that the very increase in the speed of missiles does not have significant unpleasant consequences. "Any hypersonic target can fly to the target at its maximum speed only at high altitude, and as it approaches the object it decreases, enters the atmosphere and loses speed. There are other nuances that I will not go into, " he explained.
The expert noted that the concern has been living in a "hypersonic reality" for a long time, since, in particular, almost all ballistic missiles used by the Almaz-Antey anti-aircraft missile systems have hypersonic speeds. The concern's anti-aircraft missiles are also capable of developing hypersonic speeds, "this is also not news," he said.
Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region is a leading Russian company that creates systems to combat any means of aerospace attack. The concern has created such well-known anti-aircraft systems as "Tor", "Buk", S-400 and others.
