The Chinese National Space Administration reported that the rover will continue to move in the direction of the southern part of the Martian plain Utopia
BEIJING, August 23. /TASS/. The rover of the Chinese research mission "Tianwen-1" traveled on the surface of Mars for more than 1 km. This was reported on Monday by the Xinhua news Agency, citing the Chinese National Space Administration.
As of Monday, the Zhuzhong rover has overcome more than 1 thousand meters on the surface of the planet, the report says.
The Chinese National Space Administration added that the rover will continue to move in the direction of the southern part of the Martian plain Utopia, where, presumably, there was a junction of the ancient sea and land. There, the device will perform a number of research tasks.
The automatic interplanetary station "Tianwen-1" made a successful landing on Mars on May 15. On May 22, the Zhuzhong descended from the landing platform and began to study the soil, ionosphere and climate.
The Tianwen-1 station was launched on July 23, 2020 using the Changzheng-5 launch vehicle from the Wenchang Cosmodrome, located in the southern Chinese province of Hainan. In February, the station reached the orbit of Mars.
