PATRIOT PARK (Moscow region), 23 Aug-RIA Novosti. The reconstruction of the eastern branch of the Baikal-Amur mainline is planned to be completed a year earlier - in 2023, Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov told reporters at the Army-2021 forum.
Work on the reconstruction of the most difficult section of the BAM with a length of 340 kilometers between the settlements of Ulak and Fevralsk, to which railway troops were involved, started on August 12. It was planned that they would be completed by the end of 2024.
"Taking into account all the tasks and the meeting held by the Minister of Defense, we have revised the construction dates and moved them to the left so as not to go according to plan and complete them in 2024, but we will complete them by the end of 2023," Bulgakov said.
According to him, today a group of 1,500 military personnel is working at the BAM site, more than 900 pieces of equipment are involved. Students from military training centers of civilian institutes also participate in the construction.
At the moment, Bulgakov specified, the clearing of the territory along the railway line under construction from forest plantations is almost completely completed. An embankment was made under the canvas for 20% of the length of the branch. Access roads are being built.
BAM is a railway in Eastern Siberia and the Far East, the second main railway (along with the Trans-Siberian Railway) of Russia to the Pacific Ocean. It connects Taishet and Sovetskaya Gavan. The total length now is 4.3 thousand kilometers. BAM and Transsib are operating at the capacity limit.
