The Russian military conducted exercises using helicopters in the mountains of Tajikistan, the application of conditional strikes on enemy positions was practiced. On Monday, August 23, the press service of the Central Military District (CVO) reports.
"The crews of Mi-8MTV5-1 amphibious transport helicopters and Mi-24 combat helicopters of the aviation group of the 201st Russian military base have worked out the elements of piloting in the mountains of Tajikistan. During the flights, the pilots in pairs performed elements of piloting in mountain gorges, honing their skills during landing and takeoff from unequipped landing sites, " the ministry said in a statement.
The press service added that in the area of the Lyaur training ground, the crews worked out helicopter ambushes with the use of conditional launches of unguided missiles at ground and air targets of a conditional enemy, as well as avoiding the blows of portable anti-aircraft missile systems. The planned flights took place during the day and at night in simple and difficult weather conditions, the ministry noted.
On August 10, it was reported about the completion of joint exercises with the participation of 2.5 thousand servicemen of the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Kharb-Maydon training ground 20 km from the border with Afghanistan.
According to the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, the exercises were held against the background of the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan and the threat of the penetration of terrorist groups into the border countries of Central Asia.
