At the seventh International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2021", which opened on Sunday in the Moscow region, a completely new development of the "Military-Industrial Company" was presented - a two-axis multi-purpose all-wheel drive armored floating vehicle, already unofficially nicknamed "BRDM-4"in the Network.
Like its famous ancestors, this sample is designed for conducting various types of intelligence. Of course, with its help, it will be possible to accompany car convoys, fight against enemy scouts and saboteurs. To do this, a remote-controlled module with machine-gun weapons, such as a 7.62-mm PKTM or a large-caliber 12.7-mm "Cord", is installed on the machine.
The total weight is 10000 kg. Load capacity, depending on security and equipment: 1500-2000 kg. The length is 5600 mm. Width - 2550 mm. Height-2000 mm. The ground clearance is 400 mm.
If such already well-known armored cars as the "Athlete" or "Arrow" have the engine in the front, then here the 240-horsepower YAMZ is behind the control compartment on the right side. The maximum speed on the highway is 120 km / h.
In both sides and aft there are doors with massive armored glass, in which loopholes are made. Two propellers make it clear that the "BRDM" can overcome water obstacles by swimming, accelerating up to 9 km / h. This is a very necessary option for a technique of such a purpose. The crew is 4 people.
As for protection, it corresponds to the II class of STANAG 4569 and can withstand the explosion of a mine with two kilograms of TNT under the bottom.
The armored reconnaissance and patrol vehicle of the first generation entered service in 1957, it can still be found in the armies of some states. However, the most popular was the BRDM-2, it was operated by the military of more than fifty countries of the world. It has participated in many wars and armed conflicts.
The BRDM-3 was created on the basis of the BTR-80A armored personnel carrier. It had special equipment, 6 crew members and weapons in the form of a 30-mm 2A72 automatic cannon and a 7.62-mm PKTM machine gun.
