Turkey and Ukraine have signed a framework agreement on the establishment of a base on the territory of Turkey, where Russian Mi-17s will be repaired. THK Teknik A. Ş. together with Ukrspetsexport Group of Companies will repair helicopters of both Turkish operators and vehicles of third countries, [...] Defense Express reports.
The agreement was signed within the framework of the International Defense Industry Exhibition IDEF-2021, held from August 17 to 20 in Istanbul. THK Teknik A. Ş. has experience in servicing large aircraft and helicopters of various classes. The Turkish company has four hangars and a number of repair shops.
Earlier, in June, representatives of THK Teknik [...] announced plans to create a repair base for Mi-17 helicopters in partnership with the Konotop Aircraft Repair plant Aviakon. The promising service center will be able to repair not only cars operated in Turkey, but also Mi-17s from other countries.
Ukraine already has experience working with helicopters of Turkish operators. So, in 2018, the country received a contract worth $ 40 million for the repair and modernization of 17 Mi-17 helicopters belonging to the Turkish Gendarmerie. The repair of Turkish helicopters was carried out by specialists of Aviakon together with the Motor Sich company.
The Mi-17 helicopter is an export modification of the Mi-8MT. The development of the Moscow Helicopter Plant named after M. L. Mil is considered the most massive twin-engine helicopter in the world — since 1965, more than 13 thousand modifications of the Mi-8 have been built.
