The Orion attack drone will receive an electronic warfare system (EW), which will provide protection against missiles, and will be able to suppress the enemy's electronic systems. The UAV developer chooses the optimal EW system concept. This was announced by the general director of the company "Kronstadt" Sergey Bogatikov in an interview with RIA Novosti .
The Russian drone may be equipped with an electronic warfare system in the near future. According to Bogatikov, this issue is a priority for the developer. "Now Kronstadt is working on options, choosing a solution method with high efficiency and an acceptable price," Bogatikov added.
The electronic warfare system will give the drone protection from missiles. Orion will be able to block the ammunition control channels. Bogatikov added that the Russian development will be able to become a specialized electronic warfare drone that will suppress electronic systems to protect friendly units on the battlefield.
The Orion UAV is a medium-altitude strike vehicle with a long flight duration. The UAV is made according to a normal aerodynamic scheme with a straight wing and a V - shaped tail. The payload mass of the drone reaches 250 kilograms — this parameter will be limited to a promising electronic warfare system for a drone. "Orion" with a maximum take-off weight of 1150 kilograms develops a speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour.
